CALGARY, ALBERTA — In an extraordinary journey of resilience, faith, and ambition, Filipino-Canadian Chris Estrella has shattered glass ceilings to become the number one RE/MAX realtor in Calgary for the year 2025.
Besting over 200 other agents in the city, Estrella has also climbed the ranks to secure the 35th spot overall in Western Canada—a massive achievement out of approximately 6,000 RE/MAX realtors across the region. Brokerage representatives noted that this is a historic milestone, marking the first time a Filipino agent has claimed the top spot in Calgary.
Estrella’s path to success was far from traditional. Before building a thriving career in Canadian real estate, he spent time as a seminarian and even experienced homelessness back home. "I remember when I was young, we used to transfer from one house to another because we don't have enough money to pay for our rent," he said.
This experience became his inspiration to become a top-notch realtor. When he transitioned into the real estate industry in 2023 though, the road ahead was grueling. For his first seven months of practice, Estrella failed to close a single sale.
"I already doubted myself if I can do this. I prayed hard and asked God if this is really the path he chose for me. Until one day, I was able to sell my first house and then it started from there," Estrella shared.
That first breakthrough changed everything. Driven by unwavering determination, Estrella quickly turned momentum into dominance. He earned RE/MAX’s Rookie of the Year award in 2024, followed immediately by capturing the number one ranking in Calgary the very next year.
Beyond his success as an agent, Estrella has established himself as a powerhouse real estate investor. In just three years, he has successfully acquired 30 houses across Alberta, which he currently manages and leases to tenants.
Despite his rapid ascent and growing portfolio, Estrella remains deeply grounded, expressing profound gratitude for his journey.
"I'm humbled and grateful for winning the award," he said. "This is a testament that Filipino-Canadians can excel in this industry and that we can contribute immensely to Canada."
Never one to rest on his laurels, Estrella has already set his sights on the next milestone. He has officially launched his own real estate team, with a bold ambition to claim the number one real estate team title by the end of the year.
